About this chart
Portugal recorded 6.79 liters of pure alcohol from wine per person aged 15 or older in 2022. Moldova was close at 6.78 liters, followed by France at 5.66 and Italy at 5.38. These figures measure recorded wine consumption using alcohol content, which is different from simply counting the volume of wine sold.
The denominator includes residents aged 15 or older, not only wine drinkers. The numerator is pure alcohol contained in wine, not liters of wine itself. The result therefore cannot be interpreted as the typical drinkerโs annual purchases or as a direct measure of wine-market revenue.
