How to make a bar chart race
Open the editor and paste your data. Dates go down the first column (or across the top row) and each item gets its own column.
Pick Bar race, choose a format (9:16 for Reels and TikTok, 16:9 for YouTube) and a theme.
Write a hook as the title, add story captions at key dates, and keep the leaderboard end card on so viewers get a payoff.
Press Export. The MP4 renders in your browser and downloads in seconds.
What makes a bar chart race people watch to the end
A question in the title. "Which country will be #1 in 2050?" beats "Population by country."
A lead change. Data where the leader gets overtaken holds attention; a flat ranking doesn't.
Images on the bars. Add flags with emoji in the name (๐บ๐ธ United States) or upload logos and faces.
A clear ending. The leaderboard card answers the question and gives people something to comment on.

Frequently asked questions
What data format do I need?
Any table works. Put dates down the first column and one column per item, or put items down the first column and dates across the top row. A three-column list (date, name, value) works too. Paste straight from Excel or Google Sheets, or upload a CSV.
Is it free?
Yes. You can build, preview and export 720p videos with a small watermark for free, no account needed. Pro is $11.99 a month and swaps our watermark for your logo, adds 1080p and 4K, 60 fps and music. Pro + AI is $19.99 a month and adds AI cleanup for messy data.
How long can a bar chart race be?
Anywhere from 5 seconds to 2 minutes, plus an optional hold at the end. For Reels and TikTok, 20 to 40 seconds usually performs best.
Can I add flags or logos?
Yes. Start a name with a flag emoji for countries, or upload any image per item and it appears on the bar.
Do you upload my data?
No. Charts render and encode entirely in your browser, so your spreadsheet never leaves your device. The only exception is Fix it with AI, which you choose to use for very messy text. That's also why exports take seconds instead of waiting in a render queue.
