About this chart
Venezuela's chart has an unusual dent in the middle. The UN estimates about 5.5 million people in 1950, 13.2 million in 1975 and 24.5 million in 2000, rising to about 30.8 million in 2016. The total then fell for several years, to about 28.2 million in 2022, as the country went through an economic collapse and mass emigration. By 2023 it was about 28.3 million.
The medium projection has a modest recovery: about 29.2 million in 2030, 31.1 million in 2050 and a peak near 31.2 million in 2057, then a slow decline back to about 28.3 million in 2100. World rank moves from 65th in 1950 to 53rd in 2023, a projected 62nd in 2050 and 66th in 2100. Figures are from UN World Population Prospects 2024.
