About this chart

Florida moved up to third place among the states in the latest estimate, after sitting fourth in 1990, 2000 and 2010. Its population grew from 13,018,365 in 1990 to 23,462,518 in 2025, an increase of about 80 percent, and it passed New York, which is now fourth at 20.0 million.

The pace has not faded. Florida is up 46.2 percent since 2000 and 24.5 percent since 2010, and it added nearly 1.9 million residents between 2020 and 2025 alone. Growth slowed to a crawl around 2009, when the estimate rose by only about 126,000, then picked up every year after that. The chart uses Census Bureau July 1 resident estimates.
