About this chart

Idaho is one of a handful of states whose population has doubled since 1990. The estimate rose from 1,011,882 to 2,029,733, a gain of about 101 percent, and the state passed 2 million in 2024. Growth is still fast: 56.2 percent since 2000 and 29.2 percent since 2010. Only Nevada, Arizona and Utah grew by a larger percentage since 1990.

The latest years are among the strongest. Idaho added about 180,000 residents between 2020 and 2025, a 9.8 percent increase in five years. That pushed it from 42nd among the 50 states in 1990 to 39th in 2000 and 2010, and 37th in 2025. The chart uses Census Bureau resident estimates for July 1 of each year.
