About this chart
This ranking lists the countries with the highest crude birth rate, the number of live births in a year for every 1,000 people in the population. The Central African Republic leads at 46.2 in 2024, followed by Chad at 43.3, Somalia at 42.3, Niger at 41.4 and DR Congo at 40.9. Mali, Angola and Mozambique fill out the top eight, with Afghanistan the only country outside Africa in the top nine.
The crude birth rate counts all people, not only women of childbearing age, so it also reflects how young a country's population is. The data comes from the World Bank and covers countries with more than 1 million people. Each country's most recent value from the last ten years is shown, so years can differ between countries. The 15 highest values run from 46.2 down to 33.3 for Cameroon.

What does crude birth rate mean?
