About this chart

Türkiye's GDP was $734 billion in 2020 and $1.60 trillion in 2025, more than double in five years, and the 2025 figure is the highest in the series. The country ranked 25th in the world in 1980, 18th in 2000 and 16th in 2025. Earlier setbacks were severe: dollar GDP fell 27 percent in 1994, from $180 billion to $131 billion, and 27 percent in 2001, from $275 billion to $202 billion, both years of currency crises.

Türkiye finishes the race with its three nearest economies behind Mexico ($1.83 trillion) and Australia ($1.80 trillion) and ahead of Indonesia ($1.45 trillion). Mexico and Australia were ahead of Türkiye in every year of the data. The contest with Indonesia has swung back and forth since 1980, and Türkiye moved ahead of it again in 2025. Values are nominal current US dollars, so exchange rates matter.
