About this chart
Jamaica's population doubled in the 73 years to 2023, from 1.4 million to 2.8 million, and the latest estimate is the highest value in the entire series. The count was 2.0 million in 1975 and 2.6 million in 2000, so growth had already slowed well before the present. Between 2000 and 2023 it added only about 0.2 million people.
The UN medium projection reverses the direction sharply: about 2.8 million in 2030, 2.45 million in 2050, 1.7 million in 2075 and 1.07 million in 2100. That is a fall of nearly two thirds from 2023, to a level below the 1950 population. Jamaica's world rank slides from 122nd in 1950 and 142nd in 2023 to 146th in 2050 and 157th in 2100.
