ChatGPT topped AppTweak's 2025 ranking of the most downloaded apps worldwide, with an estimated 845.3 million downloads across the App Store and Google Play, up 156.8% on 2024. Instagram was second at 762.3 million (down 19.0%) and TikTok third at 545.8 million (down 12.0%). These are AppTweak's modeled estimates, not official figures, and other vendors such as Sensor Tower and Appfigures rank slightly differently.

WhatsApp Messenger had 541.4 million downloads, CapCut 501.1 million and TikTok Lite 433.8 million, up 77.2%. TikTok and TikTok Lite are separate listings and are counted separately. Seven of the top ten lost downloads year over year, including Facebook, down 23.5% to 408.2 million. Across the top 500 apps, downloads fell 5.2% in 2025 after rising 2.3% in 2024, per AppTweak.
