About this chart

Connecticut had a rare flat start. Its population slipped from 3,289,056 in 1990 to about 3.27 million by the mid-1990s, and it only returned to its 1990 level around 2000. It has since climbed to a record 3,688,496 in 2025, a total gain of about 12 percent over 35 years.

Most of that growth is recent in this series. The state added about 109,000 people between 2020 and 2025, after growing almost not at all from 2010 (3,579,173) to 2020 (3,579,643). Connecticut ranked 27th among the states in 1990 and has been 29th in 2000, 2010 and 2025. Figures are Census Bureau July 1 estimates.
