Flourish
The tool that popularised bar chart races. Its template is excellent for interactive charts embedded in articles and websites, with a generous free tier for public charts. If you need a vertical MP4 for social media, you'll need an extra export or screen-recording step.
RaceCharts
A dedicated race-chart tool aimed at finance and investing creators, with built-in market data. A good fit if your content is mostly stock and portfolio comparisons.
MakeYourChart
Built for short-form video: paste any table, get a 9:16, 4:5, 1:1 or 16:9 MP4 rendered in your browser in seconds, with captions and a leaderboard end card. Bar, line, column and donut races. Free 720p exports with a watermark; Pro for 1080p, 4K, 60 fps and your own logo.
Python (bar_chart_race, Plotly)
Free and scriptable, ideal for automated pipelines and data teams. Expect to write and debug code, install ffmpeg, and design the layout yourself.
After Effects templates
The most customisable visuals, from marketplace templates. Needs an After Effects subscription, time to learn the template's data import, and render time on your machine.
PowerPoint and Excel
Good for revealing a chart bar by bar in a presentation, but they can't animate values changing over time or re-rank bars. Use a video made elsewhere and insert it into your slide instead.
