About this chart
Vietnam's GDP rose from $31 billion in 2000 to $147 billion in 2010 and a record $515 billion in 2025, and its world rank climbed from 60th to 31st. The World Bank series begins in 1985. Since 2012, when it was $196 billion, GDP has risen in every year, including 2020, when dollar GDP fell in larger economies such as India and Canada.
Vietnam finishes the race with its three nearest economies behind Thailand ($577 billion) and Norway ($531 billion) and ahead of the Philippines ($487 billion). It has trailed both Thailand and Norway throughout the data, though the gap to Norway is only about $16 billion. The Philippines contest was close: Vietnam passed it in 2022, fell behind in 2023 and moved ahead again in 2024. Figures are nominal current US dollars, not adjusted for inflation.
