What the data shows
- In 2010–2025, Idaho ranks #1 with 29.2%, ahead of Utah (27.5%) and Texas (25.6%).
About this chart
Idaho added 29.2% to its population between 2010 and 2025, the largest percentage gain of any state. Utah followed at 27.5%, then Texas (25.6%), Florida (24.5%) and Nevada (21.5%). South Carolina (20.2%), Colorado (19.1%), Arizona (19.0%) and Washington (18.7%) complete the top nine. North Dakota, at 18.5%, is the only state in the top ten outside the West and South.
The ranking is percentage growth in resident population from July 1, 2010 to July 1, 2025, computed from U.S. Census Bureau estimates drawn from several releases: the 1999 vintage, the 2000 to 2010 intercensal estimates, and the 2020 and 2025 vintages. Because the measure is a percentage, a small state can rank high on modest numbers of new residents. Delaware (17.8%), North Carolina (17.0%) and Georgia (16.4%) follow North Dakota.
