About this chart
USC leads all schools with 8 Heisman Trophy winners, a total that includes Reggie Bush's 2005 award, which was returned in 2010 and reinstated in 2024. Notre Dame, Ohio State and Oklahoma follow with 7 each. Ohio State's trophies come from 6 players, because Archie Griffin won in both 1974 and 1975 and is the only two-time winner.
The award is presented each December, and each column shows the football season it was won. Chicago's Jay Berwanger took the first in 1935, and 91 awards have been given through 2025. Indiana's Fernando Mendoza won the most recent, the first Heisman for Indiana. The 2026 award has not been presented, so the series ends at 2025, and only schools with 3 or more winners are charted.
