About this chart
Egypt's GDP peaked in 2022 at $477 billion. A year later it had fallen 17 percent to $396 billion, and by 2025 it was $365 billion, 42nd in the world. That is two places below its 2000 rank of 40th, though well above its 1980 rank of 50th. An earlier slump came in 2017, when GDP dropped 25 percent from $332 billion to $248 billion after the pound was floated.
Egypt ends the race with its three nearest economies behind Pakistan ($407 billion) and Czechia ($391 billion) but ahead of Iran ($363 billion). The order changed in 2025: Egypt passed Iran that year and dropped below Czechia and Pakistan. These figures are nominal current US dollars from the World Bank, not adjusted for inflation or purchasing power, so a weaker pound shows up directly as a lower dollar total.
